April Fools in Zurich

We came across a few international April Fools’ Day jokes yesterday, but this one is my favorite:

The Switzerland Traveler wrote about new traffic laws in Zurich, purportedly describing the new environmental law that requires motorists to not only turn off their engines while stopped at red lights but also remove the keys and hold them out the window as proof. The law also encourages pedestrians to send MMS messages with photos of perpetrators.

The joke’s tip-off was the phone number: 2008 04 01. Geoff Collins, who writes The Switzerland Traveler, copped to the prank this afternoon.

Also, London’s Daily Telegraph today printed a roundup of April Fools’ Day spoofs yesterday in the British newspapers.
