Picture this: an international Summit with hundreds of student leaders in attendance, all working together to design groundbreaking, out-of-the-box solutions to the world’s most pressing global issues. Now add to that a high school internship program that’s about more than fetching coffees and making copies – it’s about learning how to take what you’re most passionate about, and turning it into real life career skills. Pretty cool, right?
Students attending an EF Global Student Leaders Summit not only hear from some of the world’s most inspiring leaders and collaboratively work with other students on solving global challenges, but they also have the opportunity to apply for EF’s Global Student Leaders Summit Internship Program. In a global setting, Summit interns actively experience areas of study that pertain to their interests, such as journalism, photography, social media, event planning and presentation.
In each area, students are mentored by EF staff who offer hands on training and professional guidance, leaving students with a valuable range of creative life skills that help set them apart on college applications and kick-off their future careers. This is the EF Global Student Leaders Summit Internship Program:
Summit Presenter Ryan R. not only met and introduced Dr. Jane Goodall as the Costa Rica Summit keynote, but she received one-on-one advice from Severn Cullis-Suzuki before taking the stage and delivering an inspirational introduction speech that wowed an audience of over 500 people.
My childhood was full of the outdoors, animals and gardens. My dad taught ecology and environmental science at our high school, so I was brought up to love and respect nature. By the time I was in sixth grade, there were only three other girls my age in my science and math classes. Fortunately I had role models like Jane that reminded me that, that was okay.

Social Media intern Robbie W. took control of the EF Tours Twitter account, live-tweeting the two-day event to over 17,000 followers.

Our student journalists participated in a one-hour seminar where they learned from EF’s Director of Public Relations on how to pitch their stories to newspapers and outlets for national placement. They then secured each of their pieces a spot in various outlets, including the Huffington Post:

Jack S. took over the EF Tours Snapchat account, creating Stories that captured behind-the-scenes moments at the Summit — everything from snippets of Summit keynote addresses, to the fierce competition on the ping pong tables.
Jack W. and Will P. shadowed a professional photographer for the two-day conference, and curated a portfolio of stunning photos to be used in marketing materials. Meanwhile, Raina B. learned new ways to apply her passion for photography to digital marketing, documenting the Summit for the 8,000 followers on the EF Tours Instagram account.
Every student intern participated in a live press-conference with Dr. Goodall; whether asking her the questions they’ve always wanted to ask, writing articles that reflected on the experience and responses Dr. Goodall provided, or taking photos from the press pit.
