If you’re looking to find a business’ location in India, you won’t be able to do so by looking for a street number, street, city, state and zip code. In India, addresses are noted by districts, divisions, enclaves and areas, followed by nearby landmarks.
So for example, if you were looking for the Hydrabadi Biryani House, you’d know to drive in the direction of the Plato Public School. Once in that area, it wouldn’t be uncommon for you to stop and ask someone how to get to the school. In fact, most Indian cab drivers will make frequent stops, asking every few blocks for a new set of directions.
Alternatively, some landmarks are so well known that they don’t even need a physical address. Take for example, the India Gate. All you need to know is that it is located in Delhi. With that information, you can rely on helpful locals to guide you there step-by-step.
